Kung Fu

WHAT IS KUNG FU?

Kung Fu 功夫 originates from Chinese to mean "accomplished skill or hard work". It is an ancient Chinese method of self-defense which uses striking blows and loose, fluid movements of the arms and legs against an attacker. The name Kung Fu is used for all styles of the system. At SFMA we teach the style of Choy Li Fut.

WHAT IS CHOY LI FUT?

Choy Li Fut 蔡李佛 is a style of Kung Fu which was created by Chan Heung in 1836. It was based on the teachings of his 3 teachers (Chan Yuen Woo, Li Yau Sau, and Choy Fook). Choy Li Fut combines the styles of the northern and the southern Shaolin Temples into one fighting style. It emphasizes the use of the combination of external strength with internal force, while encompassing a wide selection of techniques. These techniques include long and short range strikes, animal techniques, kicks, sweeps and takedowns, pressure point attacks, joint locks, and grappling, which makes Choy Li Fut one of the most well-rounded and versatile fighting systems.
